Presidential Pairing on Frugal February, Day 20

Happy President’s Day! If you are a lucky one you got the day off of work! If you are one of the unlucky ones you had to work and your bairns had the day off. That’s always the way it goes, right?

My office was closed but we still had to work from home so all I had was a reminder to not go into the office. So it goes. I’m grateful for a job though.

I appologize these posts have been getting more and more boring. It’s like. Lindsay Here, didn’t spend anything. Peace out.

The reality is that we have been having a lot going on behind the scenes. Lots of excitemenenty things I’m not sharing with many yet. Lots of sickness around here. Lots in the works. Lots, lots, lots. Like all of you dear friends, life is busy and chaotic and boring and fun and okay-ish all at the same time.

I can tell you that we have a lot going on in terms of plans. I know Nick has a to-do list a mile long for the lake house that we want to accomplish. The goal is to get a ton done, bust it out, and then have the summer to lay around and lounge. We have paint swatches to paint the wood floor of our cottage. It is currently the color of putty. Not a pretty color. So we are going with I think will end up being a blue to paint over it and give the place a little pop of color. So that’s something that we are planning on. Other projects are to figure something out for all of the wood panelling in our house. To renovate the kitchen on a budget that is small-ish. Or we’re thinking if we should just table that and keep saving. Always something to decide isn’t there?

Tonight I had to take Emma to ballet. After that, as we’ve discussed before, her ballet is too far away to go home and then have to subsequentially just have to leave to pick her up. So I had to find something to do. Usually I’ve been going to the library to get loads of work and researching and relaxing done. But…

Today is President’s Day, y’all. Which means that the libraries were closed. As it were also, I was starving. STARVING.

So, in a moment of weakness I decided to go to Panera for dinner.

While this may not seem like the most frugal idea, hear me out.

I was able to order one of their new Panera Duets where you pay less for select meal pairings. I got a cup of chicken rice soup with bread and a chicken salad sandwich for $6.99. I also still have the lingering effects of the sip club so I was able to get a drink for free. I didn’t think this was a bad meal for $7.00. Putting on my nutrition educator hat here to let you know that most of the time you can ask them to double the veggies on a sandwich. This helps you to get more vegetable servings in and will help keep you fuller longer.

I had a nice thought process on the way to Panera of how eating out does have it’s purpose sometimes. Sometimes it’s for convenience, when you just have to eat. Sometimes it’s for foods you couldn’t make for yourself or you want to experiment and try something new. Sometimes it’s to celebrate and enjoy.

In this month of frugality my love for eating out has not gone away but I feel like it’s been honed to know when I want to go out to eat and why. I have stopped eating out just to eat out. I’ve been able to stop the cycle I was on of grabbing something because I didn’t feel like making food and instead have been able to identify situations where I will want to eat out.

I spent the rest of the evening getting things done at Panera. It was a nice and relaxing evening, except for the Beyonce belting it out all night long in my ear. I could have done without that.

After picking Emma up from ballet we went home, had some hot cocoa and watched an Everyone Loves Ray, our current show to watch together. I love our simple, quiet life we have in our cute, little town. I am a blessed lady for sure. And I hope you know that you are too!

Loves.
